Apple Pie Moonshine Recipeapplepiemoonshinejar

Here’s a video on making your very own 40 proof apple pie moonshine.

You’ll need 3 things to make it:

  • Apple Juice Concentrate (4 cans)
  • 80 proof neutral grain alcohol, such as vodka or Everclear (6 cups)
  • Apple pie spices or just plain old cinnamon (9 sticks, or 1 tin of apple pie moonshine spice mix)

Combine the alcohol, apple juice concentrate, and alcohol in a pot. Let it sit overnight. Pour through strainer into 3 quart jars.

If you are looking for instructions on how to make apple pie moonshine you are in the place.

You are only going to need 3 ingredients to make a great batch of apple pie moonshine

  1. Apple juice concentrate
  2. Alcohol
  3. Spices

We suggest using apple juice concentrate instead of regular apple juice because regular apple juice has a lot of water in it. You would need to add much more apple juice to the mixture to get the same flavor you do from a smaller amount of concentrate. Using apple juice concentrate adds the flavor without diluting the final batch of apple pie moonshine. By using apple juice concentrate the finished apple pie moonshine will be at least 40 proof. You want to buy the 12 ounce cans of frozen apple juice concentrate from the freezer isle of the grocery store.

Moonshine is nothing more than a clear neutral grain spirit which is made primarily from corn and sugar. Moonshine also is very high in proof and has very little taste. Real moonshiners don’t use their best stuff to make apple pie moonshine. Moonshiners save the good moonshine and serve it unaltered because it does not need anything added to make it taste great. Moonshiners often use the not so good shine and add flavoring to it and turn it into stuff such as apple pie moonshine.

Although it is called Apple Pie moonshine you don’t actually need to use real moonshine to make it. Since moonshine is a clear neutral grain spirit it does not have a lot of flavor it can be substituted for vodka or Everclear.  If making this recipe with 80 proof vodka the final result of the apple pie moonshine will be 40 proof. If making this recipe with 190 proof Everclear the final product will be 95 proof.

The easiest way to make apple pie moonshine is just to add a few sticks of cinnamon along with the alcohol and apple juice concentrate.  If going this route we suggest using at least 3-4 sticks for every quart of apple pie moonshine. However, we have found a way better recipe and we are not going to use cinnamon sticks for the batch. We are going to make a batch of apple pie moonshine using a spice kit from howtomakeapplepiemoonshine.com

There are 3 steps to making this apple pie moonshine spice kit

  • 1st add 6 cups of at least 80 proof neutral grain spirit to a large pot
  • 2nd add 4 cans of apple juice concentrate to the large pot
  • 3rd add 1 tin of apple pie moonshine spice mix to the large pot

Once all of the ingredients have been added to the pot let them mix at room temperature for at least 24 hours, but no more than 48 hours. After sitting for 24-48 hours the mixture needs to be transferred into quart jars. The spices need to be removed from the liquid and the easiest way to do that is with a funnel and a wire mesh strainer. A coffee filter or cheesecloth can be used to filter the mixture if there is not a mesh strainer available. Pour the mixture into a funnel and strain it into 3 quart sized mason jars. Once you have transferred the apple pie moonshine to the mason jars keep them refrigerated until drinking. You now have 3 quarts of some of the tastiest apple moonshine ever made.

I made the above recipe using a jar of 100 proof Ole Smoky Original moonshine. It tasted too strong for me, so I added a 5th can of the apple juice concentrate to help balance the flavors. I think the apple pie spice kit is a wonderful addition in making homemade ‘Shine. I plan on ordering several more & experimenting w/ additional AP recipes.

How much does the four cans of concentrate drop the ABV%? How much does it affect the proof?

Water freezes at 32°F and the freezing point of ethanol alcohol is -173.2°F. Apple Pie moonshine is a mixture of both alcohol and water (juice) so it sounds like the juice froze and the alcohol did not.
